Wilpattu
Wilpattu National Park
A Hidden Gem for Wildlife Photography in Sri Lanka
Wilpattu National Park is the largest and one of the oldest national parks in Sri Lanka. It’s famous for its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful landscapes, and incredible wildlife — making it a perfect place for wildlife photographers.
The park is known for its unique “villus” — natural lakes that attract animals throughout the day. These open spaces and water bodies offer great lighting and clear views for capturing stunning wildlife moments.
A Great Place to Photograph Leopards
Wilpattu is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see and photograph the Sri Lankan leopard. The park is less crowded than others, giving you a better chance to quietly observe and photograph leopards in their natural habitat.
You might spot a leopard resting under a tree, walking along a trail, or drinking at a waterhole — all amazing moments for your camera.
More Wildlife to Capture
Besides leopards, you can photograph many other animals in Wilpattu, such as:
- Sloth bears
- Spotted deer
- Elephants
- Crocodiles
- Wild boar
And of course, a huge variety of birds, from large eagles to colorful small species, perfect for bird photography.
